"Dog owners of all breeds are being besieged with laws and restrictions that threaten their enjoyment and use of their dogs. Anti-canine legislation such as Breed specific legislation (BSL), mandatory spay and neuter, outrageous intact owner and breeder fees and pet limit laws are sweeping the nation. It has been reported that in some areas animal control is going door to door to mandate compliance with these restrictions and are confiscating dogs. For years breed specific legislation was isolated and a ‘pit bull’ problem, now we have legislation that threatens to put an end to all dog ownership and traditional use.
We, as dog owners, have much to lose if we do not maximize our efforts and encourage all purebred dog owners with the same beliefs and goals to join us." American Dog Breeder Association.
BSL Affects everyone. It starts with one Breed, and will soon move toward your breed. Help support The fight against BSL. Join the American Pitbull & Bully Club today & help Support their efforts to show a positive breed image with responsible Owners.
What is Breed Specific Legislation? Breed-specific legislation (BSL) bans or restricts certain types of dogs based on their appearance because they are perceived as “dangerous” breeds or types of dogs. This would mean if your breed, or dog type was implemented they would usually be required to meet one of the following this vaires depending on how the law is written :
- the dog must wear a Muzzle in public
- Spay or neuter the dog
- Contain the dog in a kennel with specific requirements (size, material, flooring etc.)
- Keep the dog on a leash of specific length or material
- Purchase liability insurance of a certain amount
- Place “vicious dog” signs on the outside of the residence where the dog lives
- Make the dog wear a “vicious dog” tag or other identifying marker
Today it targets The Pitbull, Tomorrow it may be your chihauhua . Stand up & show your legislators that BSL does not solve the problem. It will not stop vicious attacks, and ignores the problem, the lack of responsible owners.
